PELAGIC TRIPS from BALTIMORE on ROOSTER

Baltimore's location, at the extreme southern tip of Ireland with open ocean to the south and west, makes it an ideal starting point for pelagics. The waters off nearby Cape Clear island are well known for species like the larger shearwaters, petrels and skuas. Chumming enables birds to be viewed at close range.

Regular sightings on Rooster include:

Sooty shearwater
Great shearwater
Cory's shearwater

Great skua
Arctic skua
Pomarine skua
Long-tailed skua

Wilson's petrel
Leach's petrel
Sabine's gull

An added bonus is the likelihood of seeing other marine animals, like cetaceans, sharks and turtles.

Rooster is a fast modern purpose-built charter boat, licensed for up to 12 passengers, with seating and the full complement of navigational and safety equipment including lifejackets, liferaft, ship-to-shore radio, etc. There is also a flush toilet. The skipper, Nick Dent, is a birdwatcher himself ready to share his knowledge of the area with you.

In addition to Baltimore, groups can be picked up by arrangement at other points including Cape Clear.

2015 charter rate (three-hour trip, maximum 12 persons) € 250
